I always wanted to see South America, and Colombia was supposed to be one stop on that list. Six trips later, I’m still not done. 

Before my first trip, I decided to actually learn some Spanish instead of getting by on pointing and hoping. I took a handful of basic lessons, landed in Colombia, and still froze every time I had to use it.

Ordering food, asking for directions, all of it took more nerve than I expected. But my first trip did something I didn’t plan on.

It made me want to come back, not just to see more of the country, but to actually understand it. The culture, the pace of life, the way people connect with total strangers.

So I kept going back. Somewhere along the way I realized I wasn’t the only one on this road.

There are other people out there learning Spanish, saving up for a solo trip to Colombia, nervous about the exact same things I was nervous about. I started this blog to give them what I wish I’d had: real, on-the-ground experience instead of generic advice.

It’s also turned into something like my own journal, a place to track what I’ve actually learned, trip by trip. Everything here comes from a solo traveler’s perspective, because that’s how I’ve experienced most of this country myself.
